Sourcing & Materials

Sourcing trims and hardware without derailing your timeline

Trims are a small fraction of cost and a large fraction of delay. A garment cannot ship because a drawcord is missing just as surely as if the fabric never arrived.

What counts as a trim

  • Zippers, buttons, snaps and hardware
  • Thread, in matched colours
  • Elastic, drawcords and tipping
  • Brand, size and care labels
  • Hangtags and packaging components

Lead times vary enormously

Stock trims can be available immediately. Custom hardware, branded pulls and woven labels are made to order and can take considerably longer than the garment itself. Order custom items first, not last.

Colour matching is a real task

Thread and trims should be matched to the actual fabric under controlled lighting. Matching from a screen produces components that visibly disagree with the garment in daylight.

Compatibility with dye and wash

If the garment will be dyed or washed after assembly, every trim must survive the process. Confirm this before ordering, not after.

Order a margin

Trims are inexpensive relative to the cost of stopping a run. Ordering slightly more than the calculated requirement is cheap insurance against loss, damage and miscount.
